Shelter Program Overview

In addition to breeding the most tame and well-socialized parrots in Colorado, we’re proud to introduce our licensed Parrot Shelter Program. As both a breeder and a rescue, we uphold a strong ethical boundary – shelter birds are never bred. Every parrot that comes to us for rescue, rehabilitation, or rehoming receives the same level of care and respect as our own. We believe parrots in need deserve permanent homes in a licensed life care facility.

Initial Assessment

When a parrot is surrendered or rescued, we begin with a thorough health and behavior evaluation. At the owner’s request, we offer two compassionate options:

· Permanent Placement here at our shelter, for birds who need a long-term safe haven.

· Rehabilitation and Rehoming where our goal is to match each bird with the right forever home through close observation, proper husbandry, and cultivating trust in human interaction.

Our top priority is always the well-being of the bird, ensuring that every parrot is carefully placed where they’re genuinely loved and understood.

Quarantine & Care

To protect all residents, every new arrival undergoes a quarantine period with individualized nutrition plans, veterinary care when needed, and enrichment activities to reduce stress. During this time, we dedicate hours of one-on-one and family-style interaction to support each bird, rebuild trust, reinforce confidence, and most of all – heal their heart.

Chris in particular, has a remarkable gift for hands-on rehabilitation. Using patience, empathy, and expertise to help parrots rediscover what it means to feel safe, social, and loved.

Intake Process

We understand that surrendering a parrot can be emotional and difficult, and every situation is unique. That’s why we offer two compassionate intake options:

1. Donate / Surrender

Owners who can no longer care for their parrot may surrender them to our licensed shelter with full confidence that the bird will receive professional care, patient rehabilitation (if needed), and when possible, thoughtful placement into a loving, well-matched home. For parrots who cannot be rehomed, we provide permanent sanctuary here at our facility.

2. Purchase Option

For owners who prefer not to surrender their bird as a donation, we also offer fairly priced purchasing. In these cases, we buy the bird directly and take full responsibility for its care, rehabilitation, and placement. This option provides peace of mind, knowing the bird will be rehomed responsibly—with compassion, transparency, and zero judgment.
